Marie-Françoise Robert (*1939, lives and works in Bern)

Corona-Zeiten (mitten drin), 2020
Mixed media on paper, each 42 x 30 cm

Marie-Françoise Robert creates collages from images of art. The iconographically dense compositions in washed-out colours overlay medieval and ancient religious buildings, Christian icons and many an animal element, such as a horse’s head that refers to the work Der Nachtmahr by the painter Füssli. Working in reminiscence, the artist draws on a famous artistic and religious tradition and develops allegorical visions of the worldwide Corona crisis for Corona-Zeiten (mitten drin). These dark and cryptic collages present themselves like powerful evocations of contemporary disorder.
